CIPA Encourages Cosmetic Entrepreneurs to Protect Their Brands Through Trademark Registration. The Companies and Intellectual Property Authority (CIPA) is calling on cosmetic entrepreneurs in Botswana to take the essential step of registering their trademarks, a move that provides legal protection and strengthens brand identity in an increasingly competitive industry.

Whether selling skincare products, makeup, or haircare solutions, CIPA emphasises that a cosmetic brand is more than just a product, it’s a business asset that deserves full protection under the law. By registering a trademark, brand owners gain exclusive rights to use their brand name, logo, or slogan, helping them build market trust and avoid costly disputes over intellectual property.

As the cosmetics and personal care sector continues to grow in Botswana, many local entrepreneurs are launching innovative product lines. CIPA’s message is clear: trademark registration is a critical step toward business growth, credibility, and long-term success.

For small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), protecting intellectual property (IP) also increases brand value and opens the door to broader opportunities, such as partnerships, licensing, and expansion into regional and international markets. It ensures that the investment made in branding and product development is safeguarded.

Entrepreneurs interested in registering their cosmetic brand trademark can email ip@cipa.co.bw for guidance and support.

Through initiatives like #IPChooseday, CIPA continues to raise awareness about the value of IP rights among local businesses and creators. The Authority encourages all brand owners, especially in fast-growing sectors like cosmetics, to be proactive in protecting their innovations.

For Botswana’s entrepreneurs, trademarking a brand is not just a legal formality, it’s a strategic move toward building a resilient, recognisable, and protected business.
