CIPA Announces Scheduled OBRS Downtime Ahead of 31 July Filing Deadline. The Companies and Intellectual Property Authority (CIPA) has announced a scheduled maintenance window for its Online Business Registration System (OBRS), set to take place on Thursday, 31 July 2025, from 00:30 to 06:30 hours. The temporary downtime is part of ongoing efforts to enhance system performance and reliability for users across Botswana.

In a public notice issued this week, CIPA urged all businesses with annual returns or business name renewals due in July to submit their filings and payments before the maintenance period begins. The Authority clarified that the statutory deadline for July filings remains 31 July at midnight, and clients can still complete their submissions once the system is restored.

“While the OBRS will be offline during the scheduled period, we encourage clients to avoid last-minute submissions. Early filing ensures compliance and avoids the risk of penalties,” CIPA stated.

The system may also become available earlier than anticipated if maintenance activities are completed ahead of schedule.

For entrepreneurs, SMEs, company secretaries, and other business owners, the announcement is a timely reminder to remain proactive about statutory compliance—especially in light of increased digital reliance for business registrations and updates.

The OBRS has become an essential tool in Botswana’s drive toward efficient, paperless business administration, and regular system upgrades are critical to ensuring service stability.
