Chobe Game Lodge Leads Botswana’s Shift Toward Electric-Powered Safari Tourism. Chobe Game Lodge, located within Botswana’s renowned Chobe National Park, has taken a major step toward sustainable tourism with the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) for its safari operations. The move marks a significant milestone for the country’s eco-tourism sector, aligning conservation with innovation in mobility.

According to Chobe Game Lodge Director, Johan Bruwer, the lodge’s electric mobility journey began more than a decade ago with the conversion of traditional internal combustion game viewers to fully electric models. The initiative reflects the lodge’s continued commitment to reducing environmental impact while maintaining a world-class guest experience.

The latest electric safari vehicles feature a 60kWh battery pack, providing a range of up to 180 kilometres on a single charge. Each vehicle is powered by two electric motors — one on the front axle and another on the rear — delivering a combined 300kW of power and 620Nm of torque.

Designed for both comfort and performance, the vehicles are equipped with independent suspension on all four wheels to ensure smooth navigation through varied terrain. An advanced software suite monitors real-time telemetry data and driver behaviour, helping optimise efficiency and safety during game drives.
