CHEC Equips Jwaneng Technical College with Solar Skills and TTools. A total of 20 students and three teaching staff members from Jwaneng Technical College (JTC) graduated today following a solar engineering capacity building and retooling exercise conducted by China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC).

The graduates have since been deployed to the Jwaneng 100MW Solar Plant project, where they undertook their training. The initiative is part of efforts to strengthen technical expertise in renewable energy and ensure that young professionals are equipped with practical skills aligned to Botswana’s energy transition goals.

In addition to the training, CHEC donated solar training equipment to Jwaneng Technical College. The contribution is intended to support the introduction of solar engineering as part of the college’s curriculum, ensuring that future cohorts of students gain exposure to renewable energy technologies.

Officials noted that the partnership between CHEC and JTC reflects a broader commitment to aligning education with national priorities, particularly the drive toward renewable energy adoption. By embedding solar training into the curriculum, the college will be better positioned to produce graduates who can contribute to Botswana’s sustainable energy future.

The capacity building exercise also underscores the importance of collaboration between industry and education institutions. With renewable energy projects expanding across the country, the need for skilled technicians and engineers is growing. Initiatives such as this not only provide immediate employment opportunities but also strengthen long-term workforce development.

The graduation marks a milestone for Jwaneng Technical College, as it integrates renewable energy training into its academic offerings. For the students and staff involved, the experience represents both professional growth and a chance to contribute directly to Botswana’s renewable energy ambitions.
