Bus Services Continue Smoothly Amid Fare Negotiations. Despite ongoing negotiations between transport authorities and government, bus services across Botswana remain unaffected, with operators and passengers confirming that operations are running smoothly.
Mr. Modise Kedikilwe, a bus conductor with Bamangwato Coach Tours in Francistown, assured commuters that services are continuing without disruption. “All buses are operating as usual and departing at their stipulated times,” he said.
Passengers have echoed similar sentiments. Lemme Gobotswang, travelling to Mahalapye, noted that her journey had not been impacted. “I am heading to Mahalapye and everything is moving smoothly. The buses are fully operational,” she said.
The confirmation comes as the Botswana Transport Associations and the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure continue discussions on transport fares. Both parties issued a joint communiqué in April, emphasizing that negotiations are being conducted in good faith. The statement highlighted a positive and collaborative atmosphere, with a shared commitment to finding solutions that benefit commuters, operators, and the broader transport sector.
Authorities have reassured the public that while talks are ongoing, services will remain uninterrupted. The negotiations are expected to address fare structures and operational sustainability, balancing the needs of passengers with those of transport providers.
For now, commuters can rely on bus services to continue as scheduled, with no delays or cancellations reported. The smooth operations underscore the importance of dialogue and cooperation in maintaining stability within the public transport system.
As negotiations progress, stakeholders remain focused on ensuring that any outcomes support both affordability for passengers and viability for operators, reinforcing the role of public transport as a vital link across Botswana’s towns and villages.
