BTC Appoints Jürgen Peschel as New CEO Following Profit Growth Under Outgoing Acting Head. Botswana Telecommunications Corporation Limited (BTC) has announced a leadership change, appointing German executive Jürgen Peschel as its new Chief Executive Officer. Peschel is expected to assume the role on 1 July 2025, pending regulatory approval.

The transition comes as BTC reports a strong financial performance under outgoing Acting CEO Boitumelo Paya, who took the reins in 2024 following the departure of former CEO Anthony Masunga. During her one-year tenure, BTC recorded a profit before tax of approximately P263 million for the financial year ending 31 March 2025—representing an increase of up to P63 million from the previous year’s P200 million.

In its official statement, BTC described Peschel as a seasoned professional with more than 30 years of experience in the telecommunications and digital transformation sectors. The company noted that his appointment aligns with BTC’s long-term strategy to accelerate digital innovation and expand its market footprint.

Paya’s replacement despite notable profit growth has drawn public attention, particularly given BTC’s stated commitment to nurturing local leadership. However, the company has not released further details regarding the reasoning behind the change.

As the new CEO steps in, BTC is expected to continue driving digital transformation across Botswana’s telecommunications landscape, with a focus on improving infrastructure, customer experience, and technological innovation.
