BSE, Debswana & Stanbic Empower Local Firms with Capital Market Insights. In a collaborative effort to boost local enterprise growth, the Botswana Stock Exchange (BSE), Debswana Diamond Company, and Stanbic Bank Botswana today hosted a half-day workshop aimed at demystifying capital markets for citizen-owned businesses. Held at the Stanbic Bank Incubator, the event brought together companies under Debswana’s Citizen Economic Empowerment Programme (CEEP).
The workshop was themed “Opportunities in the Capital Markets – The Value Proposition of Listing on the Botswana Stock Exchange.” Its primary goal was to educate local businesses on the benefits and requirements of listing on the BSE, equipping them with knowledge to access long-term financing and explore sustainable expansion opportunities.
Key sessions highlighted the structure and purpose of capital markets, equity and debt listing procedures, corporate governance essentials, green finance options, and investment-readiness strategies. A strong emphasis was placed on corporatization and financial transparency as critical steps toward attracting investment and preparing for public listing.
CEEP-supported companies, which operate in sectors such as construction, logistics, mining services, and manufacturing, were identified as strategically positioned to benefit from improved access to capital. By engaging directly with capital market experts, participants gained valuable insights into how they can scale their operations without over-reliance on traditional funding.
This partnership between the BSE, Debswana, and Stanbic reflects a broader commitment to supporting citizen enterprises in becoming competitive, growth-driven, and investment-ready. It also aligns with national objectives to strengthen economic participation and financial inclusion.
Entrepreneurs in attendance were encouraged to consider the capital markets as a practical and accessible pathway to growth, with the BSE reaffirming its role as a partner to Botswana’s emerging business leaders.
