BSE and Stanbic Bank Elevate Youth Financial Literacy. The Botswana Stock Exchange (BSE), in collaboration with Stanbic Bank Botswana, has hosted the National Level Awards Ceremony for the BSE Stanbic Bank Senior Secondary Schools Finance and Investment Competition 2025. The ceremony took place at the BSE Offices in Gaborone, bringing together learners, teachers, school leaders, government officials, and stakeholders from the capital markets sector.
The event honoured the top national performers in this year’s competition. Al-Nur School secured first place, followed by Swaneng Hill Senior Secondary School in second place and Pioneer Academy in third. Each student from the winning teams received share vouchers redeemable through licensed brokers, with first place earning P2,500, second place P2,000, and third place P1,500.
BSE Head of Market Development, Thapelo Moribame, opened the ceremony by highlighting the competition’s role in advancing financial literacy across the country. She noted that the initiative introduces students to capital markets through practical and technology-driven learning, helping simplify investment concepts for young participants. Moribame added that nurturing an investment mindset early is essential for building future investors who are confident and informed about Botswana’s economic opportunities.
Steve Bothasitse, Deputy Permanent Secretary for Educational Support at the Ministry of Child Welfare and Basic Education, emphasized the value of equipping students with real-world financial skills. He described the competition as an important link between classroom learning and hands-on experience, helping learners identify new interests and abilities. Bothasitse also commended BSE and Stanbic Bank for supporting national development through education-focused partnerships.
The ceremony also featured an interactive session led by Angel Gabobegwe, Market Development Assistant at the BSE. Participating students shared testimonies reflecting how the Stock Market Simulator improved their understanding of investment concepts and strengthened their confidence in engaging with financial markets.
The competition continues to grow as a platform that introduces young people to investing and encourages meaningful participation in Botswana’s evolving financial landscape.
