BR Properties Unveils Mahalapye Mall and Infrastructure Development. BR Properties, a subsidiary of Botswana Railways, has announced plans for a new mixed-use commercial development in Mahalapye, signalling a major investment initiative aimed at boosting local economic activity and modernising infrastructure in the town.

The proposal was presented during a community consultative meeting at the Mahalapye Kgotla, where developers outlined plans for a three-storey complex that will feature retail outlets, a private clinic, and a filling station. The project also includes upgrades to surrounding road infrastructure, with modern intersections designed to improve traffic flow and enhance safety.

According to BR Properties, construction will begin four months after road access approval is granted by the Department of Roads. The development is expected to take between 18 and 24 months to complete. During this period, approximately 200 jobs will be created in the construction phase, with an additional 250 permanent jobs once the facility becomes operational.

Local leadership and residents expressed strong support for the project. Kgosi Tshipe Tshipe and community members highlighted the potential for stimulating local business participation while stressing the importance of pedestrian safety as road networks expand.

The investment represents a significant step in Mahalapye’s commercial growth, positioning the town for increased retail activity and improved service delivery. It also reinforces broader national efforts to unlock economic opportunities along Botswana’s rail and transport corridors, leveraging infrastructure development to drive regional growth.

By combining retail, healthcare, and transport services within a single development, BR Properties aims to create a hub that meets community needs while attracting new investment into Mahalapye. The project is expected to strengthen the town’s role as a key node in Botswana’s economic landscape.
