BPOMAS Confirms Phased Settlement Plan for Outstanding Medical Claims. The Botswana Public Officers’ Medical Aid Scheme (BPOMAS) has informed healthcare service providers that all valid claims submitted to the scheme will be paid, but settlements will be made in phases due to current cash flow pressures.

Acting Principal Officer and Chief Executive Linda Keloneilwe said invoices from December 2025 are being given priority in the payment process. She added that claims from January 2026 will be processed next, depending on the availability of funds. To maintain communication with providers, BPOMAS will issue weekly updates on payment progress.

Keloneilwe explained that the delays are linked to broader timing and cash flow alignment challenges within the scheme. She also noted that administrative procedures, reconciliation processes, and operational prioritisation have played a role in the current disruption to payment timelines.

According to BPOMAS, the situation affects all service providers and members under the scheme. Keloneilwe emphasised that changing to another medical aid would not prevent exposure to the same timing-related challenges.

The announcement serves as a formal assurance to providers that outstanding payments remain recognised and will be honoured. BPOMAS has positioned the phased payment approach as a measure to manage financial pressures while continuing to process claims in an orderly manner.

Service providers are encouraged to monitor the weekly updates that will be shared by the scheme for the latest information on payment schedules and progress.
