Botswana’s Future Founders Begin Transformative Journey with MIT Early Stage Programme. Day 1 of the MIT Kuo Sharper Center Early Stage Programme officially launched at the Botswana Digital and Innovation Hub (BDIH), marking the start of a 12-week journey for some of the country’s most promising early-stage entrepreneurs.
The programme is delivered in collaboration with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and is tailored to help participants build innovation-driven businesses with global potential. It brings together a powerful ecosystem of local and international mentors, academic expertise, and access to market networks.
The opening ceremony featured inspiring messages from leading figures in Botswana’s entrepreneurial ecosystem. Mr. Olesitse Masimega, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Trade and Entrepreneurship, encouraged participants to take full advantage of the opportunity and drive Botswana’s innovation agenda forward.
Dina H. Sherif, Executive Director of the MIT Kuo Sharper Center for Prosperity and Entrepreneurship, reminded the cohort that innovation is not just about technology but about solving meaningful challenges. “This programme is about building prosperity through entrepreneurial action,” she said.
Also addressing the group were Diane Mongudi, Acting CEO of BDIH, and Adel Boseli, Senior Advisor at the MIT Center and CEO of Salasel Technologies. They emphasized the importance of cross-sector collaboration and resilience in entrepreneurship.
With a curriculum focused on product validation, business model design, funding readiness, and scale strategies, this initiative is expected to help shape Botswana’s next generation of high-impact businesses.
