Botswana Tourism Organisation Joins Regional Efforts Against Transnational Crime. The Botswana Tourism Organisation (BTO) has participated in a regional consultative meeting on transnational organised crime convened by the Botswana Police Service. The session was officially opened by Honourable Moeti Mohwasa, Minister of State President for Defence and Security, and brought together security leadership from six Southern African nations — Botswana, Angola, Namibia, Zambia, Zimbabwe, and South Africa.
The meeting focused on advancing cross-border collaboration to address the growing challenges posed by transnational organised crime. Such cooperation is seen as critical to safeguarding tourism and ensuring the stability of the SADC region.
Speaking on behalf of BTO, Mr. Oteng Ndlovu underscored tourism’s strategic economic contribution within Southern Africa. He emphasized that sustainable sector growth is fundamentally linked to regional stability, strengthened intelligence-sharing frameworks, and coordinated security efforts
BTO reaffirmed its commitment to collaborative partnerships that protect destination integrity, reinforce traveller confidence, and position Botswana as a safe, competitive, and future-ready tourism destination. The organisation highlighted that tourism thrives when visitors feel secure, and regional cooperation is essential to maintaining that confidence.
The consultative meeting reflects a broader recognition that combating transnational crime requires collective action. By engaging with security leaders across borders, Botswana and its partners aim to strengthen resilience, protect communities, and ensure that tourism continues to serve as a driver of economic growth and cultural exchange.
