Botswana Tourism Organisation Highlights Sector Opportunities at RUFORUM 2025 Conference. Botswana Tourism Organisation (BTO) is participating in the 21st RUFORUM Annual General Meeting and Conference, a major continental gathering taking place from 1 to 5 December 2025 at the Gaborone International Convention Centre. The event is hosted in collaboration with the Government of Botswana, the Ministry of Higher Education and the Botswana University of Agriculture and Natural Resources.

The conference, held under the theme “Positioning Africa’s Higher Agricultural Education to Effectively Impact Development,” brings together more than 500 delegates, including higher education leaders, policy makers, researchers, development partners, farmers and private sector players. The platform is designed for knowledge sharing and dialogue on Africa’s future in areas such as food security, research innovation, skills development and economic growth.

BTO is exhibiting throughout the week, providing attendees with insight into Botswana’s tourism sector and its role within the broader national development agenda. The organisation is outlining its mandate, which includes promoting Botswana as a competitive tourism destination, supporting investment within the tourism value chain and overseeing the grading, certification and classification of accommodation establishments.

For Botswana’s business community, the conference presents an opportunity to better understand how tourism intersects with agriculture, education and entrepreneurship. With delegates from across the continent exploring collaborative opportunities, the event strengthens Botswana’s positioning as a destination for both investment and knowledge driven partnerships.

BTO’s presence at the conference also underscores the sector’s contribution to sustainable development, especially as the country continues to diversify its economy. By engaging with stakeholders throughout the week, the organisation highlights tourism’s potential to support job creation, rural livelihoods and long term economic growth.

For local entrepreneurs in tourism, agribusiness and related service industries, the RUFORUM conference serves as a strategic platform to connect with decision makers and explore emerging opportunities in regional value chains.
