Botswana Tourism Organisation Explores New Partnerships as Chinese Delegation Shows Interest in Investment Opportunities. Botswana Tourism Organisation (BTO) hosted a courtesy visit from a Chinese business delegation on Tuesday, signalling renewed opportunities for cross border collaboration in tourism and related sectors. The delegation was led by Miles G. Nan, Presidential Envoy and Special Advisor for Trade and Investment Affairs for the Asia Pacific region, and was received by BTO Acting Chief Executive Officer Kgotso Miles Ollyn.
The meeting focused on strengthening bilateral engagement and identifying areas where Botswana and China can expand cooperation. Discussions highlighted tourism investment, joint destination marketing, cultural exchange initiatives and opportunities within Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE). The delegation also expressed interest in areas connected to wildlife management and environmental initiatives, demonstrating a broader approach to partnership development.
For Botswana entrepreneurs and businesses, the engagement presents potential openings in tourism supply chains, hospitality, transport, creative industries and nature based ventures. Increased collaboration could drive demand for local services, support new market linkages and help diversify investment flows into Botswana’s tourism ecosystem.
The visiting delegation expressed appreciation for Botswana’s hospitality and acknowledged the country’s reputation as a unique tourism destination. They also emphasised the importance of intensified destination marketing within the Chinese market, one of the world’s most influential outbound tourism sectors. For Botswana, improved visibility could attract new visitor segments and stimulate private sector growth.
BTO’s leadership underscored the value of partnerships that enhance market access, strengthen industry capacity and support long term sector recovery. With tourism remaining a key driver of economic activity, the organisation continues to prioritise collaborations that can create sustainable business opportunities and position Botswana more competitively in global tourism.
The meeting forms part of ongoing efforts to expand international relations and explore targeted investments that benefit both established industry operators and emerging entrepreneurs within Botswana’s tourism landscape.
