He highlighted the sector’s positive recovery trajectory, noting that tourism currently contributes 4.9% to Botswana’s GDP and is projected to reach 6.2% by 2025.

The strategic retreat serves as a platform to review BTO’s progress, evaluate its current operational framework, and align its future direction with national goals such as the Botswana Economic Transformation Programme and Vision 2036. Key focus areas include enhancing destination competitiveness, broadening market access, reducing revenue leakages, and expanding the tourism value chain.Participants are also engaging in discussions aimed at strengthening collaboration among industry stakeholders, fostering innovation in tourism product development, and embedding sustainability into every aspect of BTO’s operations.

Mr. Mmohe emphasized that the ongoing transformation is not only about growth but also about resilience and inclusivity. The retreat’s outcomes are expected to shape strategies that enable the sector to adapt to evolving global tourism trends while ensuring that local communities benefit from tourism-driven opportunities.

Through this renewed strategic focus, BTO aims to reinforce Botswana’s reputation as a leading sustainable tourism destination and a competitive player in the regional and international travel markets.
