Botswana Sustainability Week Opens in Maun With Focus on Private-Sector GGrowth. Botswana Sustainability Week 2026 has officially opened in Maun, bringing together national leaders, private-sector representatives and sustainability practitioners to discuss the role of sustainability in the country’s economic development.

The three-day event is taking place from 21 to 23 October 2026 at Sedia Hotel in Maun and was officially opened by Speaker of the National Assembly, Dithapelo Lefoko Keorapetse.

This year’s event is being held under the theme, “The Business of Sustainability: Activating Private Sector Leadership to Drive Botswana’s Next Growth Economy”.The programme is focused on opportunities linked to green investment, innovation and collaboration between different sectors of the economy.

During his opening remarks, Keorapetse highlighted the importance of placing sustainability at the centre of Botswana’s economic transformation.

“We will not build Botswana’s next growth economy in spite of our environment. It will be built on it and with it,” he said.

The remarks placed environmental considerations alongside economic development as discussions at the event turn to the opportunities and challenges associated with building a more sustainable economy.

The Botswana Tourism Organisation (BTO) is participating in Botswana Sustainability Week, joining other stakeholders in discussions around sustainable tourism, green investment and the country’s future growth economy.

The event provides a platform for participants to explore practical approaches to balancing economic development with environmental conservation. Discussions are also focused on strengthening community livelihoods and building greater economic resilience for future generations.

With sustainability positioned as the central theme, Botswana Sustainability Week 2026 is bringing together stakeholders from different areas to consider how private-sector participation can contribute to the country’s development objectives.
