Botswana Stock Exchange Pushes for Greater Private Sector Role in Capital Market Growth. The Botswana Stock Exchange (BSE) hosted an open dialogue aimed at promoting transparency and stimulating participation in Botswana’s capital markets, with Vice President and Minister of Finance Hon. Ndaba Nkosinathi Gaolathe highlighting the importance of private sector engagement in driving the nation’s economic transformation.

The dialogue focused on addressing barriers to market entry, encouraging listings, and strengthening collaboration between government, the private sector, and state-owned enterprises. Speaking at the event, Hon. Gaolathe underscored that Botswana’s economic vision, guided by the Botswana Economic Transformation Programme (BETP), is centered on building a digitally enabled, export-led, and diversified high-income economy.

He noted that capital markets play a crucial role in unlocking growth opportunities, fostering innovation, and deepening financial inclusion. “Listing allows ordinary citizens to own a part of Botswana’s economic story, deepens financial inclusion, fosters a culture of saving and investment, and democratises wealth creation,” said Gaolathe.

The Vice President further commended the BSE’s ongoing efforts to engage prospective issuers, create a more inclusive investment ecosystem, and attract listings from multinationals, state-owned enterprises, and ambitious SMEs. He urged entrepreneurs and private sector leaders to take advantage of capital-raising opportunities through the exchange to scale their businesses and drive national productivity.

For Botswana’s entrepreneurs, the message was clear: active participation in the capital market is essential to building a sustainable and competitive private sector. The BSE’s continued engagement initiatives mark a significant step toward transforming Botswana into a regional hub for investment and financial innovation.
