Botswana Set to Host Landmark Africa Biodiversity Summit in November 2025. Botswana is preparing to host the first-ever Africa Biodiversity Summit, a continental gathering aimed at advancing sustainable development and green growth across Africa. The event, organised in collaboration with the African Union Commission (AUC), will take place from November 2 to 5, 2025, under the theme “Leveraging Africa’s Biodiversity for Prosperity.”
The summit will bring together policymakers, researchers, investors, and civil society leaders to explore how Africa can harness its rich biodiversity to drive inclusive economic growth. Discussions are expected to focus on pressing issues such as biodiversity financing, conservation, and the role of non-governmental organisations and private sector partners in advancing green investment.
Ahead of the event, the Ministry of Environment and Tourism, in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), hosted a media training session in Gaborone to prepare local journalists for comprehensive coverage. The session aimed to strengthen environmental reporting, build scientific understanding, and ensure accurate communication of biodiversity issues to the public.
According to the Ministry, the summit will provide a platform to mobilise technical and financial support while reinforcing political commitment toward environmental sustainability and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
For Botswana’s business community, the summit presents an opportunity to explore emerging sectors in eco-tourism, renewable energy, and sustainable agriculture, all of which depend on biodiversity as a foundation for growth. Local enterprises and innovators are expected to benefit from discussions on green finance, investment incentives, and partnership frameworks.
