Botswana Secures P10.86 Billion Partnership with OPEC Fund. Botswana’s economic transformation agenda has received a significant boost as Vice President and Minister of Finance Ndaba Gaolathe attends the OPEC Fund’s 50th Anniversary and Development Forum 2026, where a partnership worth up to P10.86 billion is being highlighted.

The funding commitment, secured under Botswana’s Country Partnership Framework with the OPEC Fund, is expected to support investments in infrastructure, renewable energy, digital transformation, innovation, and private sector-led growth. The initiative forms part of Botswana’s broader strategy to diversify its economy beyond diamonds and create sustainable employment opportunities.

During the Vienna engagements, Botswana and the OPEC Fund will also formalise a Technical Assistance Grant aimed at strengthening debt management, fiscal consolidation, and sovereign credit assessment capacity within the Ministry of Finance.

Following the OPEC Fund forum, Vice President Gaolathe will travel to Cape Town for the 56th SACU Council of Ministers Meeting, where discussions will centre on regional trade, customs cooperation, and economic integration.

The dual engagements underscore Botswana’s commitment to attracting development financing, enhancing economic resilience, and deepening both regional and international partnerships.

The P10.86 billion OPEC Fund commitment stands out as one of the most significant development financing opportunities currently available to Botswana, reinforcing the country’s efforts to position itself for long-term growth and transformation.

By strengthening ties with the OPEC Fund and engaging with SACU partners, Botswana continues to advance its vision of building a diversified economy that supports shared prosperity and sustainable development.
