Botswana Opens Applications for UNESCO Participation Programme Funding. The Botswana National Commission for UNESCO has invited eligible institutions and organisations to submit funding proposals under the UNESCO Participation Programme for the 2026–2027 cycle.

In a notice issued this week, the Commission said the programme is aimed at supporting activities that align with UNESCO’s core priority areas. These include Education, Sciences, Culture, as well as Communication and Information. The funding window provides an opportunity for qualifying entities to seek support for initiatives that contribute to national and international UNESCO objectives.

The Participation Programme is a mechanism through which UNESCO assists member states in implementing projects that address priority development areas within its mandate. Through this programme, institutions and organisations are able to access financial support for activities that promote knowledge sharing, capacity building and cultural development.

The Botswana National Commission for UNESCO is coordinating the submission process locally and has called on interested applicants to ensure that their proposals are aligned with the programme’s thematic focus areas. Submissions are expected to demonstrate relevance to UNESCO’s priorities while responding to national development needs.

The deadline for the submission of funding requests has been set for 20 February 2026. Applicants have been advised to observe the closing date, as late submissions may not be considered.

Institutions and organisations seeking further information or clarification regarding the application process have been encouraged to contact the Commission directly. Enquiries can be directed to the Botswana National Commission for UNESCO via email at bwnatcom@gov.bw.

The call forms part of Botswana’s ongoing engagement with UNESCO programmes that support education, scientific development, cultural promotion and access to information. Through participation in such initiatives, the Commission facilitates collaboration between local institutions and the broader UNESCO framework.

Eligible organisations are urged to prepare and submit their funding requests within the stipulated timeframe to be considered for support under the 2026–2027 Participation Programme cycle.
