Botswana Joins World Federation of Diamond Bourses. Botswana has officially been admitted into the World Federation of Diamond Bourses (WFDB) as an affiliated member, marking a significant milestone for the country’s diamond industry. The announcement was made this morning in Gaborone by Minister of Minerals and Energy Bogolo Kenewendo during the WFDB International Botswana Summit.

The admission comes through the membership of the Botswana Merchantile Exchanges and the Botswana Diamond Hub, strengthening Botswana’s position within the global diamond trade. Minister Kenewendo described the development as a major step toward reviving the market and reinforcing Botswana’s reputation as a trusted source of natural diamonds.

“This admission will ensure we work with all the major industry players to revive the market. We will continue defending the integrity of our natural diamonds. This is a declaration that Botswana is not just a producer but a home of natural diamonds,” said Kenewendo.

She further highlighted the government’s efforts to elevate diamond marketing through initiatives such as the House of Botswana, which aims to take the country’s diamond branding and promotion to new heights.

The WFDB affiliation is expected to enhance Botswana’s engagement with international stakeholders, providing opportunities to strengthen collaboration, improve transparency, and expand access to global markets. It also underscores Botswana’s commitment to maintaining high standards in diamond trading while promoting shared prosperity through its natural resources.

This milestone positions Botswana more prominently within the global diamond ecosystem, reinforcing its role not only as a leading producer but also as a hub for innovation and integrity in the industry.
