Botswana Hosts Record-Breaking AviaDev Africa 2026 in Gaborone. Botswana has taken centre stage in African aviation this week as Gaborone hosts the largest edition of AviaDev Africa in the event’s history. More than 600 airline executives, aviation experts, and industry stakeholders from across the continent and beyond have gathered for the milestone 10th edition of Africa’s premier air route development conference.

The event is expected to position Botswana as a serious player in regional aviation connectivity, while providing a platform to attract new airline partnerships and strengthen the country’s tourism and investment prospects.

Speaking ahead of the conference, Civil Aviation Authority of Botswana CEO Captain Thuto Toise said the gathering presents an opportunity for Botswana to showcase ambitions beyond its world-famous tourism offerings. He highlighted the country’s drive towards improved connectivity, regional integration, and economic growth.

A key feature of the programme will see selected airline representatives experience the Okavango Delta through a VIP tour sponsored by Africa’s Eden and Mack Air, giving decision-makers a firsthand look at one of Botswana’s flagship tourism destinations. This initiative underscores the link between aviation development and tourism growth, offering airlines a direct perspective on the country’s potential.

In addition, Botswana Air Access plans to hold more than 10 strategic meetings with targeted carriers during the event. These discussions aim to unlock new air routes and expand international access to Botswana, reinforcing the country’s commitment to strengthening its aviation network.

By hosting AviaDev Africa 2026, Botswana is not only welcoming a record number of delegates but also signalling its readiness to play a larger role in shaping the future of aviation across the continent. The conference is set to leave a lasting impact on connectivity, tourism, and investment opportunities in Southern Africa.
