Botswana Hosts Launch of Africa-Europe Cultural Partnerships. The National Arts Council of Botswana (NACB) joined dignitaries and cultural stakeholders at the Botswana National Museum for the official launch of the Africa-Europe Partnerships for Culture, a new initiative aimed at strengthening cooperation between Southern Africa and Europe.
Funded by the European Union and implemented by the Goethe-Institut, the programme seeks to foster collaboration through the co-creation of new heritage narratives that connect communities across continents. By encouraging cultural exchange and joint initiatives, the project highlights the role of creativity in building bridges and shaping inclusive societies.
As a key stakeholder in Botswana’s cultural and creative industries, NACB welcomed the initiative, noting its potential to promote regional collaboration, cultural exchange, and the preservation of shared heritage. The Council emphasised that partnerships of this nature contribute to a sustainable future for the creative sector, ensuring that artists and communities benefit from opportunities to showcase and develop their work.
The launch event underscored the importance of cultural cooperation in advancing mutual understanding and supporting socio-economic development. By connecting African and European institutions, the initiative aims to strengthen networks, encourage innovation, and inspire new approaches to heritage and creativity.
The theme of co-creation resonated strongly throughout the event, with speakers highlighting the need to develop narratives that reflect diverse histories and identities. For Botswana, hosting the launch reinforced its role as a hub for arts and culture in the region and its commitment to supporting initiatives that celebrate creativity and inclusivity.
