Botswana Hosts Donor Roundtable Ahead of Africa Biodiversity Summit. The Government of Botswana, in partnership with the African Union Commission (AUC), convened a donor roundtable today to mobilise resources for the inaugural Africa Biodiversity Summit scheduled for 2–5 November 2025.

Minister of Environment and Tourism, Hon. Wynter Mmolotsi, explained that the roundtable was aimed at closing the funding gap to ensure the successful hosting of the Summit. He highlighted that the financial commitments sought would support logistical arrangements, participation of high-level delegations, and a strong communications and outreach strategy. Beyond the Summit itself, the session also sought early pledges and expressions of interest toward the establishment of a dedicated African Biodiversity Fund, which will help finance the implementation of post-Summit outcomes.

“The Summit will serve as a high-level platform to provide political leadership on biodiversity conservation, particularly in governance, resource mobilisation, and Africa’s contributions to global biodiversity negotiations,” said Mmolotsi.

African Union Commissioner for Agriculture, Rural Development, Sustainable Environment and Blue Economy, His Excellency Moses Vilakati, noted the significance of Botswana’s role as the first host nation of the Summit. He emphasised that the occasion should be a moment of national pride, showcasing Botswana’s conservation legacy and natural heritage to the world.

“With over 10,000 participants expected from across the globe, the Summit presents an opportunity for both environmental and economic advancement,” Vilakati stated.

For Botswana’s business community, the Summit represents more than a policy platform. The influx of international delegates and organisations is expected to open avenues for investment, partnerships, and enterprise in areas such as eco-tourism, sustainable development, logistics, and green technology. Entrepreneurs and companies have a unique opportunity to align with Africa’s growing biodiversity agenda while tapping into new markets.
