Botswana Filmmakers Head to AMVCA 2025 with National Arts Council Support. Two of Botswana’s filmmakers are set to represent the country at the prestigious Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) 2025 in Lagos, Nigeria, with backing from the National Arts Council of Botswana (NACB).

Ms. Masego Mohwasa of 27 Pictures and Ms. Lorato Lowsto Orapeleng of Mediawrap Africa will attend the continental event, where their film Mokwalo has been submitted for nomination. Aired on DStv’s Mzansi Magic, Mokwalo marks a notable moment for Botswana’s television industry as it enters the AMVCA spotlight.

Their attendance is made possible through the NACB Mobility Fund, a support initiative aimed at enabling local creatives to access international platforms. According to the Council, the funding will cover participation in both the awards ceremony and accompanying workshops, giving the filmmakers valuable exposure to continental audiences and industry leaders.

The NACB emphasized that supporting creatives on global and continental stages is key to building a resilient and dynamic cultural economy. The Council praised Mohwasa and Orapeleng for their work and dedication, stating that their presence at AMVCA 2025 highlights the potential of Botswana’s creative sector.

As the film industry in Botswana continues to grow, Mokwalo’s presence at one of Africa’s most prominent entertainment events marks a proud step forward for the nation’s storytellers.
