Two of Botswana’s talented filmmakers, Masego Mohwasa of 27 Pictures and Lorato Lowsto Orapeleng of Mediawrap Africa, are heading to Lagos, Nigeria, for the 2025 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA)—and they’re taking Botswana’s stories with them.
With support from the National Arts Council of Botswana’s Mobility Fund, the duo will attend the prestigious event, representing the country on one of the biggest platforms for African film and television.
Their film Mokwalo—a groundbreaking production that aired on DStv’s Mzansi Magic—has been submitted for nomination, a huge milestone for Botswana’s growing film industry. It’s a proud moment that not only highlights their creative excellence but also opens doors for cultural exchange and industry connections across the continent.
By making this trip possible, the Council is reinforcing its commitment to uplifting local creatives and giving them a global stage. We applaud Masego and Lorato for their hard work, passion, and the pride they bring to Botswana’s creative scene.
As they walk the red carpet and network with Africa’s best, they’re showing the world what Botswana has to offer.
