Botswana Extends Liquor Trading Hours for Easter HHolidays. The Ministry of Trade and Entrepreneurship has announced adjusted liquor trading hours for the upcoming Easter holidays, granting extended operating times for various outlets between April 2 and April 6, 2026.
Under the revised schedule, bars, restaurants, liquor depots, club liquor outlets, and nightclubs will be permitted to operate from 08:00 to 06:00 hours. Bottle stores may trade from 08:00 to 20:00 hours, while distributors and wholesale outlets are allowed to operate between 08:00 and 17:00 hours.
Temporary licence holders at trade fairs, festivals, and public events will be permitted to trade from 10:00 to 06:00 hours, and traditional brew sellers may operate from 10:00 until midnight.
The Ministry emphasized that all traders must strictly adhere to the stipulated times, warning that penalties will be imposed on those who fail to comply. Operators were also reminded to ensure that music remains within licensed premises and at reasonable noise levels to maintain public order during the festive period.
Officials noted that the adjustments are intended to accommodate increased social activity during Easter while ensuring that trading remains regulated and orderly. The Ministry further highlighted the importance of balancing economic activity with community well-being, stressing that compliance will be closely monitored.
Normal trading hours will resume on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, following the conclusion of the holiday period.The announcement reflects government efforts to support businesses during peak festive seasons while maintaining oversight to safeguard public interests. For traders and patrons alike, the extended hours are expected to enhance celebrations while reinforcing the importance of responsible operations.
