Botswana Equity Market Turnover Hits P5.34 Billion, Driven Strongly by Local Companies. The Botswana Stock Exchange (BSE) has reported total equity market turnover of P5.34 billion for the period 1 January to 31 October 2025, with local companies continuing to dominate trading activity. According to the latest update, domestic firms accounted for 92.6 percent of all turnover, reinforcing the influence of local institutional investors in shaping the country’s capital market performance.

For Botswana’s entrepreneurial and business community, the data highlights an equity market that remains heavily driven by established local institutions. This trend underscores the role of pension funds, asset managers, and corporate investors in sustaining liquidity and market stability.

Local individual investors contributed P357.3 million, representing 6.7 percent of total turnover. While this demonstrates ongoing retail participation, the BSE notes that individuals still play a relatively small role compared to institutional investors. Encouraging broader citizen participation in the stock market remains an area of ongoing interest for financial sector stakeholders.

Foreign investor involvement remained limited, accounting for 0.7 percent of total turnover. This includes 0.4 percent from foreign individuals and 0.3 percent from foreign companies. The BSE indicated that this distribution reflects a highly concentrated market structure in which domestic institutions continue to dominate both trading volumes and value.

For entrepreneurs, SMEs, and private businesses, the data provides a clear picture of market dynamics and investment behaviour within Botswana’s financial ecosystem. It also signals potential opportunities for companies considering future listings, capital raising, or investor engagement strategies.

The BSE is expected to continue monitoring participation trends as part of its broader agenda to deepen the capital market and increase accessibility for citizens, innovators, and businesses seeking growth capital.
