Botswana Economic Transformation Labs Select 200 Projects to Boost Business Innovation. Botswana’s Economic Transformation Programme (BETP) has shortlisted around 200 promising projects to participate in its upcoming Economic Transformation Labs. These Labs will serve as a focused, four-week platform where government ministries, private sector leaders, investors, and development partners collaborate closely to refine proposals, address regulatory challenges, and prepare actionable implementation plans.

The selected projects emerged from a competitive pool of more than 3,500 submissions received both locally and internationally. This wide interest highlights the growing enthusiasm among Botswana entrepreneurs and businesses to contribute to the country’s economic diversification and growth.

Vice President and Minister of Finance Ndaba Gaolathe emphasized the Labs’ critical role in stress-testing project proposals and removing policy bottlenecks. He further noted that some projects may not require government funding but could move forward rapidly once regulatory obstacles are resolved. This approach encourages private sector-led innovation and investment, key drivers for Botswana’s economic future.

Initially, the BETP Call for Ideas was set to close on 8 August 2025 but has been extended to 17 August, inviting more innovators and entrepreneurs to submit their ideas. This extension reflects a commitment to inclusive participation in shaping Botswana’s economic trajectory.

The BETP Labs are designed to support Botswana’s ambition to evolve into a high-income, globally competitive economy beyond its traditional diamond sector. By unlocking new investment opportunities and accelerating project implementation, the initiative seeks to diversify economic activities and create sustainable growth.

Botswana businesses and entrepreneurs are encouraged to engage with this initiative, as it offers a pathway to refine innovative ideas, access key stakeholders, and contribute to the country’s long-term economic transformation.
