Botswana and Rwanda Advance Strategic Ties at JPCC Session. Botswana this week hosted the Second Session of the Joint Permanent Commission on Cooperation (JPCC) with the Republic of Rwanda, marking a significant step forward in strengthening bilateral relations between the two nations.
The high-level engagement builds on the inaugural JPCC session held in Rwanda and the landmark 2019 Presidential State Visit by Botswana’s President. Officials from both countries emphasized that the meeting reflects strong political will to elevate cooperation to new heights.
During the session, senior officials engaged in substantive discussions aimed at broadening the partnership. Key areas under review included double taxation, trade, agriculture, and other strategic sectors. Delegates also worked on drafting rules and regulations to support new Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs).
Accountability was highlighted as a priority, with both sides agreeing to a biannual review mechanism and clear, time-bound action plans. A firm three-month timeline has been set to finalise outstanding matters and deliver tangible results.
The Rwandan delegation expressed appreciation for Botswana’s hospitality, noting that MoUs signed during the first session continue to yield progress. The Senior Officials Meeting featured a plenary ceremony moderated by Ambassador Tebogo Motshome, with opening remarks delivered by Ambassador Thuso Ramodimoosi of Botswana and Ambassador Fidelis Mironko of Rwanda.
This second JPCC session underscores a renewed commitment by both nations to translate agreements into concrete action. By focusing on practical implementation, Botswana and Rwanda are positioning their partnership for enhanced diplomatic, economic, and developmental cooperation across the continent.
