Botswana and Namibia Strengthen Regional Gaming Oversight with Strategic MoU. In a move aimed at enhancing regulatory coordination and responsible gaming practices across Southern Africa, the Gambling Authority of Botswana and the Namibia Lotteries Board have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) focused on regional cooperation in the gaming sector.

The MoU was formalised during a bilateral engagement held from 23 to 24 July 2025 in Gaborone. It establishes a collaborative framework for policy development, information sharing, joint research, and efforts to uphold integrity within the gaming industry.

The agreement comes at a time when digital transformation, regulatory innovation, and ethical standards are central to the sustainable growth of Africa’s gaming industry. By committing to mutual knowledge exchange and regulatory alignment, both authorities aim to build stronger, more transparent frameworks for oversight and public protection.

Representatives from both countries emphasised the importance of cross-border collaboration to address emerging challenges in the sector. Leading Botswana’s delegation were Gambling Authority Board Member Mr. Gaoakanye Tapeng, Chief Executive Officer Mr. Emolemo Peter Kesitilwe, and members of the Executive Team. The Namibian side was represented by Dr. Wycliff Shililifa, Chairperson of the Lotteries Board, and CEO Dr. John Shimaneni.

For Botswana’s entrepreneurs and businesses involved in the gaming and tech sectors, this MoU signals expanded opportunities in a better-regulated regional market. It also opens doors for future partnerships, compliance training, and innovation in gaming technology.

The Gambling Authority continues to position Botswana as a forward-looking jurisdiction committed to ethical gaming practices and institutional leadership on the continent.
