Botswana and Luxembourg Reaffirm Cooperation During High-Level Diplomatic Engagements. Botswana’s Ambassador to the European Union and the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, Her Excellency Masire-Mwamba, held a series of bilateral meetings on 16 December 2025 with senior officials from Luxembourg’s Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs and representatives of the European Investment Bank.
The engagements focused on strengthening cooperation and deepening the longstanding cordial relations between Botswana and Luxembourg. Discussions reviewed areas of shared interest, existing collaboration and opportunities to further enhance diplomatic and economic ties between the two countries.
According to the engagements, both sides expressed commitment to sustained dialogue and the development of partnerships that offer mutual benefit. The meetings explored potential cooperation in sectors including information and communication technology, financial services, renewable energy and critical raw materials, with reference to initiatives supported through European Investment Bank funding.
The discussions also reflected on the strong bilateral relationship between Botswana and Luxembourg, highlighting common priorities, particularly the pursuit of economic diversification. These shared objectives were noted as a foundation for continued collaboration across multiple development-focused areas.
In addition to the formal deliberations, the meetings served as an opportunity for Her Excellency Masire-Mwamba to bid farewell to her Luxembourg counterparts as her diplomatic tenure draws to a close. During this engagement, she expressed appreciation for the spirit of unity, resilience and cooperation demonstrated between the two countries throughout her term of service.
The day concluded with a separate engagement between Ambassador Masire-Mwamba and Ms Oratile Temoso, a young Motswana participating in the Financial Inclusion Fund Programme at the European Investment Bank. Ms Temoso is representing Botswana under the traineeship programme designed for young professionals from African, Caribbean and Pacific countries.
The programme focuses on development and investment finance, with the objective of building skills, professional exposure and long-term capacity. It aims to equip participants to contribute effectively to development finance initiatives within their home regions or at international institutions.
The engagements underscored ongoing collaboration between Botswana, Luxembourg and European institutions, while also highlighting people-focused development initiatives that support skills transfer and capacity building.
