BITC Engages Mabutsane Leadership on Proposed Donkey Milk Production Project. The Botswana Investment and Trade Centre (BITC), in partnership with Donkey Milk Industries, held a meeting with the Mabutsane District Planning Management Committee on 18 August 2025 to introduce plans for a donkey milk production project in the district.

The engagement, led by BITC Chief Operations Officer Mr. Anthony Sefako, brought together key stakeholders, including District Commissioner Mr. Dick Kalantle and members of the committee. The purpose of the meeting was to formally present the proposed project and discuss its potential benefits for the local economy.

During the session, Mr. Johannes Visagie, the project owner, outlined the details of the planned donkey milk venture. He highlighted how the initiative could contribute to the district’s economic development, create opportunities for employment, and introduce new streams of agricultural diversification. The production of donkey milk, which is gaining recognition globally for its nutritional and cosmetic applications, was presented as a niche industry that could open up new value chains for Botswana.

Committee members also engaged in discussions on possible areas of collaboration and community involvement, emphasizing the importance of ensuring that the local population participates meaningfully in the project. Topics included potential supply partnerships, skills development, and how the project could integrate with other district initiatives.

For entrepreneurs and businesses, the donkey milk project signals emerging opportunities in Botswana’s agro-processing and value-added industries. By fostering collaboration between private investors, government structures, and local communities, the initiative could set a precedent for innovative agribusiness ventures in rural districts.

The meeting concluded with a commitment to continue dialogue and explore frameworks that ensure the project delivers sustainable benefits to both investors and the Mabutsane community.
