BIC Hosts 3rd Annual Thought Leadership Conference on Future of Insurance. The Botswana Insurance Company (BIC) convened its 3rd Annual Thought-Leadership Conference today, 26 June 2025, at the Royal Aria in Gaborone. This year’s theme, “Reimagining Insurance: Human First, Digital Always,” brought together key industry leaders, legal minds, mental health professionals, and consumer advocates to unpack the evolving dynamics of trust, technology, and fraud prevention in the financial services and insurance sector.

The high-level panel discussion, moderated by Ms. Angel Setumo, Executive Partner to the CEO at BIC, focused on “Fraud-Proofing the Future: Restoring Trust and Confidence in Financial Services and Insurance.” Panelists shared diverse insights on how the insurance ecosystem can remain people-centered while integrating digital solutions that are secure and scalable.

The panel included:

  • Mr. Richard Harriman, Co-Founder of Consumer Watchdog
  • Ms. Senwelo Modise, Partner at Bookbinder Business Law
  • Ms. Bridget Mzwinila, Managing Director of Psychologists Botswana
  • Mr. Boipelo Kupe, Managing Director of Insure Guard

Each expert highlighted the need for collaboration between institutions, regulators, and consumers in creating fraud-resilient systems. Mr. Harriman stressed the importance of transparency and fairness in policy implementation, while Ms. Modise emphasized the role of legal frameworks in safeguarding data and ensuring compliance.

Ms. Mzwinila brought attention to the psychological toll of financial fraud on individuals and the need for emotional intelligence in service delivery. Mr. Kupe addressed how technology must be used responsibly to detect fraud without compromising user experience.

The event offered Botswana entrepreneurs, insurers, and small business stakeholders practical strategies to navigate a rapidly digitizing financial landscape. As insurance continues to evolve, the conference reaffirmed that trust, empathy, and innovation must remain central pillars.
