BHC Board Evaluates Northern Housing Projects, Reinforces Commitment to Citizen-Led Construction. The Botswana Housing Corporation (BHC) Board of Directors has concluded a detailed project inspection tour across the North-West and Boteti districts, reaffirming its commitment to accelerating housing delivery and strengthening citizen participation in the construction sector. The delegation was led by Board Chairperson Ms. Boitsheko Ntshingane, accompanied by Board Members Mr. Tumisang Mogwe and Mr. Gaokgakala Rabalone, together with Acting Deputy CEO Operations Mr. Ntshekisang Ofetotse.

The visit focused on reviewing progress on key housing developments and engaging directly with citizen-owned contractors responsible for executing several components of the projects. The Board also used the tour to identify operational challenges and opportunities for improved delivery, particularly in areas where housing demand is high.

In Rakops, the team inspected a development of 30 housing units intended to support accommodation needs for civil servants in the newly elevated Boteti district. The project has been strategically unbundled into smaller packages and awarded to 14 citizen-owned contractors. This approach is designed to stimulate local enterprise growth, improve contractor capacity, and distribute economic opportunities more widely across the district.

The Board also visited the Ohanja Estate development in Maun, which consists of 100 mixed-income housing units. The project aims to expand the town’s residential offering through a combination of low-, medium-, and high-income homes. During the tour, BHC leadership held discussions with contractors to understand constraints relating to material supply, cash flow, and technical oversight.

The Board emphasized its commitment to addressing these challenges and creating an environment that supports the success of citizen-owned construction companies. This includes strengthening supervision structures, ensuring timely resource availability, and improving communication between project teams and contractors.

Through the tour, BHC reinforced its role as Botswana’s Single Housing Authority, committed to expanding housing infrastructure while empowering local businesses. The corporation noted that consistent stakeholder engagement and on-site assessments will remain central to improving project outcomes and speeding up delivery timelines across the country.
