Bellabey Investments Fined for Health Violations, Ordered to Halt Restaurant Operations. Bellabey Investments (Pty) Ltd, trading under the name The Planet, has been fined P3,000.00 after health authorities found multiple violations during an inspection of its premises. The business was cited for selling expired and damaged alcohol, operating in unhygienic conditions, and failing to provide valid medical examination certificates for staff handling food.
The inspection, carried out by local health authorities, uncovered goods that were deemed unfit for human consumption. These expired and damaged items were immediately confiscated and disposed of at the Gamodubu Regional Landfill in accordance with public health regulations.
As part of the enforcement action, Bellabey Investments has been instructed to cease all restaurant operations with immediate effect until all health and safety standards are fully met. Officials stressed that the decision was taken in the interest of public health and consumer safety.
This incident serves as a reminder to entrepreneurs and businesses across Botswana of the importance of maintaining strict hygiene standards, ensuring product quality, and keeping up with regulatory compliance, particularly in the food and beverage sector.
Health inspectors have reiterated their commitment to conducting routine checks and holding businesses accountable where public health is at risk. Failure to comply may result in steeper penalties or closure of business operations.
Entrepreneurs are encouraged to view this as a call to action to review their internal processes, ensure staff are medically certified, and verify stock rotation practices to avoid reputational and legal damage.
