BDIH Launches Online Training Ahead of Open Data Hackathon. The Botswana Digital and Innovation Hub (BDIH) has announced a series of online training sessions designed to prepare participants for the upcoming National Open Data Hackathon. The initiative invites developers, students, researchers, entrepreneurs, and professionals passionate about data and technology to join the sessions and sharpen their skills ahead of the competition.

The training programme will equip participants with tools and knowledge to effectively use open data in solving real-world challenges. In addition, a dedicated Question and Answer (Q&A) session will be held on 11 March 2026 at 10:00 AM, offering further information about the hackathon, the application process, and challenge areas. Registered participants will receive access links to join the session.

The Botswana National Open Data Hackathon is a three-day innovation event led by BDIH in collaboration with the European Union-funded project, EU Support to Digital Transformation in Botswana, with financial backing from the Embassy of Finland in Pretoria. The hackathon will bring together innovators, practitioners, and public sector data providers to co-create solutions in priority areas such as health, agriculture, and tourism.

Participants will work collaboratively to develop prototypes, digital tools, or platforms that leverage open data to address national development priorities and contribute to Botswana’s digital transformation agenda. Organisers emphasized that the hackathon is demand-driven, focusing on practical solutions that can make a tangible impact

By hosting preparatory training sessions, BDIH aims to ensure that participants are well-equipped to engage meaningfully in the hackathon. The initiative reflects Botswana’s growing commitment to fostering innovation, digital skills, and collaborative problem-solving.Interested individuals are encouraged to register early to secure their place in the training sessions and the Q&A engagement.
