BDC Highlights Manufacturing Impact Through Strategic Investment in Sechaba Breweries. The Botswana Development Corporation (BDC) has reaffirmed its commitment to industrial and commercial development by spotlighting its strategic investment in Sechaba Breweries Holdings Limited, a key player in Botswana’s manufacturing landscape.

As part of BDC’s broader mandate to support economic diversification, its equity investment in Sechaba Breweries demonstrates the Corporation’s role in stimulating industrial growth, particularly in the beverage manufacturing sector.

Sechaba Breweries Holdings Limited is a publicly listed investment company on the Botswana Stock Exchange. Its core asset is a 60% stake in Kgalagadi Breweries (Pty) Ltd (KBL), with the remaining 40% held by SABMiller Botswana BV. Additionally, SABMiller Africa BV maintains a 16.84% direct shareholding in Sechaba, reflecting a deep-rooted international partnership in the local manufacturing space.

KBL operates a diversified portfolio of production facilities, including four traditional beer breweries, one clear beer brewery, a sparkling soft drinks plant, and six sales and distribution depots across the country. The company produces a range of alcoholic, non-alcoholic, and opaque beverages, serving both domestic and regional markets.

With SABMiller’s management oversight, KBL benefits from global best practices in technical operations, brand development, and distribution strategy, positioning it as a competitive manufacturer within Botswana’s industrial sector.

BDC’s investment in Sechaba through equity funding aligns with its goal of empowering Botswana’s manufacturing base while enhancing value chains and job creation opportunities. For entrepreneurs and SMEs, the investment underscores the importance of collaborative ventures between local and global players in building sustainable industries.

As Botswana continues its journey toward economic diversification, investments such as these illustrate how targeted funding can help strengthen the country’s manufacturing capabilities.
