AWHF Opens Applications for Conservation and Research Grants. The African World Heritage Fund (AWHF) has announced the opening of applications for its Conservation Grants and Moses Mapesa Education & Research Grants, reinforcing its commitment to safeguarding Africa’s cultural and natural heritage while supporting the next generation of professionals.

The Conservation Grants are designed to support projects and activities that strengthen the sustainability and conservation status of World Heritage properties across the continent. By providing financial assistance, AWHF aims to ensure that heritage sites remain protected and resilient in the face of environmental, social, and economic challenges.

Meanwhile, the Moses Mapesa Education & Research Grants target African Master’s and PhD students conducting research in natural and cultural heritage. The grants focus on World Heritage Sites and properties listed on national Tentative Lists, offering young scholars the opportunity to contribute to knowledge creation and policy development in the heritage sector.

According to AWHF, these initiatives reflect a broader vision of promoting heritage conservation while empowering communities and researchers to play active roles in shaping sustainable futures. By combining conservation efforts with academic support, the Fund seeks to build capacity and foster innovation across Africa’s cultural landscape.

The official launch of the grants was welcomed by stakeholders such as the National Arts Council of Botswana (NACB), which emphasised the importance of regional collaboration, cultural exchange, and the preservation of shared heritage.

Applications are now open, and interested individuals and organisations can find more information and apply via the AWHF website: https://awhf.net/grants/.
