Absa Botswana Invests P1.4 Billion to Drive Sustainable Farming and Rural GGrowth. Absa Botswana has reaffirmed its leadership in sustainable finance by investing P1.4 billion in agricultural development over the past three years. The funding, which supports local farmers nationwide, underscores the bank’s mission to promote sustainability, innovation, and inclusive economic growth.

Speaking during Botswana Sustainability Week 2025, Absa Bank Managing Director Keabetswe Pheko-Moshagane said the investment has enabled farmers to adopt modern, climate-smart technologies such as solar-powered irrigation systems, precision agriculture tools, and water-efficient infrastructure. These initiatives, she noted, are essential to enhancing productivity while building resilience to the impacts of climate change.

“In 2024 alone, our agricultural financing exceeded half a billion pula,” Pheko-Moshagane said. “This demonstrates our commitment to supporting Botswana’s economic diversification and long-term sustainability under Vision 2036, the Draft NDP 12, and the Botswana Economic Transformation Programme.”

Through Absa’s targeted financing and partnerships, hundreds of farmers have gained access to innovative financial solutions tailored to their operational needs. The bank’s approach aligns with the government’s efforts to strengthen the agricultural value chain, create jobs, and promote food security.

“Through targeted financing and partnerships, we are empowering local farmers to become more productive, efficient, and sustainable,” she added. “This is how finance becomes a force for national progress.”

Pheko-Moshagane reaffirmed that Absa Botswana will continue to champion sustainability in the financial sector, focusing on initiatives that foster green growth, climate resilience, and inclusive economic participation.

With agriculture remaining a cornerstone of Botswana’s economy, Absa’s ongoing investment signals a long-term commitment to transforming the sector through innovation, sustainability, and financial empowerment.
