Stanbic Bank Botswana Opens Historic P1.37bn Share Offer to Investors. Stanbic Bank Botswana is offering members of the public an opportunity to acquire shares in the bank for the first time in its 34-year history, with a public offering opening on Friday at P4.30 per share.
Stanbic Africa Holdings Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Standard Bank Group and the bank’s sole shareholder, is offering more than 319 million shares, representing a 20% equity stake in Stanbic Bank Botswana.
According to documents released to the Botswana Stock Exchange (BSE), approximately 255.5 million shares have been allocated to a private placement targeting selected institutional investors. The remaining 63.9 million shares will be available to members of the public.
The public offer opens at 09:00 on Friday and will close on 27 November 2026. Individuals wishing to participate must apply for a minimum of 250 shares, with additional applications accepted in multiples of 10 shares.
At the offer price of P4.30 per share, the transaction provides an opportunity for local investors to acquire an ownership interest in one of Botswana’s established banking institutions. Following the conclusion of the offer, Stanbic Bank Botswana is expected to list on the Botswana Stock Exchange on 7 December 2026.
The transaction also adds to a series of recent initial public offerings on the local exchange. Other recent offerings include Kwa Nokeng and Continental Reinsurance, while the Dangote Refinery offering is being made through a different investment instrument known as depository receipts.
The latest transaction comes after a prolonged period of limited IPO activity on the BSE, with November 2017 marking the previous initial public offering before the recent developments.
For Stanbic Bank Botswana, the share sale represents a significant change in its ownership structure, opening the institution to public shareholding for the first time since entering the Botswana market 34 years ago.
