Naledi Mining Services Eyes P2 Billion Zambia Contract as Regional Expansion Gathers PPace. Naledi Mining Services, a wholly owned subsidiary of Debswana, is pursuing a major international contract in Zambia valued at approximately P2 billion as the Botswana-based mining services company seeks to expand its operations across Africa.
Chief Executive Officer Bokang Thitoyamore said the company is close to signing the potential agreement, although some processes remain outstanding before the deal can be finalised. Further details are expected to be disclosed at a later stage.
The proposed contract represents Naledi’s first major international contract and forms part of its broader strategy to identify opportunities beyond Botswana. Speaking at the Botswana Mining Show this week, Thitoyamore said the company was also exploring opportunities in Zimbabwe, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Malawi.
In Zimbabwe, Naledi has held discussions involving 13 mining assets as it considers possible opportunities to participate in the country’s mining sector. Thitoyamore also pointed to the country’s artisanal mining industry as an area where conventional mining methods could potentially be introduced to improve operational practices and productivity.
Naledi is also assessing opportunities in the DRC and Malawi, with a focus on areas including technical skills, governance and operational capacity.
Thitoyamore said the company had been engaging with government ministries and mining stakeholders in the region to identify potential investments and value-adding partnerships.
The expansion efforts come as Botswana-based mining services companies look beyond the domestic market for opportunities within the wider African mining industry.
Thitoyamore also highlighted Botswana’s mining policy environment as an important foundation for companies seeking to expand internationally. He stressed the need for businesses to make sound investment decisions as the mining industry evolves and new opportunities emerge across the region.
