WUC Moves to Develop Floating Solar Plants Across Major DDams. The Water Utilities Corporation (WUC) has opened an Expression of Interest (EOI) process for companies interested in developing floating solar photovoltaic (PV) power plants on its dam infrastructure.

The initiative is aimed at integrating renewable energy into WUC’s water infrastructure, with the corporation seeking qualified companies to undertake the design, development and operation of floating solar PV systems.

The procurement is referenced as WUC 056 (2026) and was published on 22 October 2026. Through the EOI, WUC is seeking to identify suitably qualified companies that could subsequently be invited to participate in a Request for Proposals (RFP) process.

The opportunity is open to eligible local companies, joint ventures and consortia. Foreign companies, including joint ventures involving foreign firms, are also permitted to participate in the procurement process.

Submissions will be assessed according to qualification and selection criteria set out under the EOI process.

Floating solar technology uses water surfaces on reservoirs for solar power generation. WUC’s procurement process provides an opportunity to explore the use of its existing dam infrastructure for renewable energy generation while supporting the corporation’s broader sustainability objectives.

However, details on the proposed generating capacity, specific dam locations, implementation timelines and investment requirements have not been provided in the information released as part of the announcement

.Those details could be clarified as the procurement process advances and potential projects move through subsequent stages.

The EOI represents an initial procurement step rather than confirmation that specific floating solar plants have been awarded or will be constructed. WUC is first seeking to establish which companies have the qualifications and capabilities required for the proposed work.

The corporation’s decision to seek expressions of interest follows growing attention to the potential role of renewable energy within water infrastructure, particularly through the use of existing reservoirs for solar generation.

Further developments will depend on the outcome of the EOI process and any subsequent procurement stages initiated by WUC.
