First Capital Bank Backs Botswana Cricket Team With P80,000 Sponsorship. First Capital Bank Botswana has provided the First Capital Lions cricket team with a sponsorship worth almost P80,000 as the Botswana Cricket Association’s 50-over national league gets underway.

The sponsorship combines support for the team with financial literacy initiatives aimed at helping players develop saving habits and prepare financially beyond their sporting careers.

The national league entered its third week with the First Capital Lions leading the standings after winning their opening match. Nine teams from across Botswana are participating in the competition, which runs from August to November, with the leading teams progressing to the finals.

First Capital Bank said its support for cricket forms part of its broader interest in sport as a way of building communities, encouraging healthy lifestyles and providing opportunities for young people to develop their talents.

As part of the sponsorship, every First Capital Lions player will receive a funded Lefika savings account with an initial deposit of P200.

The bank will also conduct financial literacy sessions for the team. The sessions are intended to encourage players to save and strengthen their financial planning while they are active in sport.

According to the bank, Lefika is a zero-cost savings account that includes funeral cover and offers a return of about 4%.First Capital Bank said the financial education component recognises that sporting careers can be relatively short and aims to encourage players to build financial security during their playing years.

The Botswana Cricket Association welcomed the sponsorship, saying investment in cricket supports the development of players, coaches, officials and administrators while helping to increase participation.
