Debswana Opens P4.1 Million Betesankwe Clinic to Strengthen Community Healthcare. Debswana’s Jwaneng Mine has officially handed over the newly constructed Betesankwe Clinic, a P4.1 million healthcare facility aimed at improving access to primary healthcare services for residents of the rural community.

The handover ceremony marked the completion of the project, which Debswana said forms part of its ongoing commitment to supporting communities within its area of influence through investments in social development.

Speaking at the event, Jwaneng Mine General Manager Goitseone Gadifele said the clinic represents more than the completion of a building, describing it as an investment in the health and wellbeing of the Betesankwe community.

He said that while diamonds remain central to Debswana’s business, the company’s purpose is centred on people. Gadifele noted that over the past five decades, Debswana has worked alongside communities to convert Botswana’s natural resources into long-term national development through investments in healthcare, education and community initiatives.

According to Gadifele, the clinic was funded through proceeds generated by the Jwaneng Mine General Manager’s Soccer Fiesta. He said the project demonstrates how community sporting events can contribute to meaningful development initiatives. He also acknowledged the support of sponsors, volunteers, participating teams, employees and supporters whose contributions helped make the project possible.

The Betesankwe Clinic is expected to reduce pressure on surrounding healthcare facilities while bringing essential medical services closer to local residents. The facility will provide a range of primary healthcare services, including maternal and child healthcare, immunisation programmes and treatment for common illnesses.

Debswana said the new clinic is intended to improve access to healthcare for the community while supporting the delivery of essential medical services in the area.
