Botswana Secures $100 Million for Landmark Solar Project. Botswana has achieved a breakthrough in renewable energy development after securing US$100 million (approximately P1.35 billion) in financing for the 100MW Tati Solar Project, the country’s first utility‑scale solar power plant.

Developed by Etavi Renewables and Shumba Energy, the project is scheduled to begin commercial operations in 2027. Once operational, it will supply electricity to the Southern African Power Pool (SAPP), positioning Botswana as a potential regional energy exporter.

The investment represents a significant vote of confidence in Botswana’s renewable energy sector and supports the country’s ambition to reduce reliance on imported electricity. By tapping into cross‑border power trading, the project is expected to unlock new revenue streams while strengthening national energy security.
