Debswana Charts Future with ‘Ya Masa’ Transformation Strategy. Debswana Diamond Company has unveiled its ambitious 2025–2029 Transformation Strategy, branded “Ya Masa”, a Setswana phrase symbolising collective ownership of the company’s future as it navigates a rapidly evolving global diamond industry.
The strategy was introduced during a leadership gathering and is designed to position Debswana for long‑term sustainability, competitiveness, and growth, while reinforcing its role as a cornerstone of Botswana’s economic development.
Reflecting on Debswana’s journey since its establishment in 1969, Chief Executive Officer Andrew Motsumi described the company as more than a diamond producer, noting its contribution to Botswana’s transformation from one of the world’s poorest nations into an upper‑middle‑income economy. He credited generations of employees, communities, and partners for turning natural resources into national prosperity.
The programme will unfold in three phases: Survive, Sustain, and Thrive. The initial phase, running until 2027, focuses on strengthening fundamentals and restoring competitiveness. The second phase, through 2029, consolidates gains and builds stability. The final phase aims to position Debswana for diversified value creation and long‑term success.
Company leaders emphasised that “Ya Masa” is not just a corporate plan but a shared commitment involving employees, partners, and stakeholders. They stressed that disciplined execution and collective responsibility will be key to achieving the transformation goals.
