Sandvik Secures P925 Million Equipment Deal at Khoemacau Mine. Swedish engineering company Sandvik has expanded its footprint in Botswana after securing a major equipment supply contract valued at more than P925 million with Chinese mining contractor JCHX Mining Management Co. Ltd for operations at the Khoemacau Copper Mine in northwestern Botswana.

The agreement covers the supply of 45 underground mining machines to support production expansion and mine development activities. The package includes advanced loaders, trucks, drill rigs, raiseboring equipment, and utility units, alongside automation and digital technologies aimed at improving productivity, safety, and operational performance.

Deliveries under the contract are scheduled to begin in August 2026 and continue through April 2030, marking one of the most significant long-term equipment supply deals in Botswana’s mining sector.

The partnership aligns with Khoemacau’s broader expansion strategy, which seeks to increase copper output toward 60,000 metric tons annually in the near term, with longer-term ambitions of reaching 130,000 metric tons per year. This growth trajectory positions Khoemacau as a major contributor to Botswana’s mining industry and reinforces the country’s role as a strategic copper producer in the region.
