Call for Submissions: Local Filmmakers Invited to European Film Festival. The Alliance Française de Gaborone has announced a call for submissions from Motswana filmmakers, seeking three local short films to be screened at the European Film Festival this September 2026.

The initiative is designed to showcase Botswana’s creative talent on an international stage, providing filmmakers with an opportunity to present their work to diverse audiences. Submissions are open in two categories: Very Short Films (under six minutes) and Short Films (six to twenty minutes). The focus will be on creativity, cinematography, and originality.

The deadline for submissions is 20 June 2026, giving filmmakers just under two weeks to prepare and submit their entries. Interested directors can check eligibility requirements via the official guidelines and apply through the provided online form.

By spotlighting local talent, the Alliance Française aims to strengthen Botswana’s presence in the regional film industry and encourage emerging voices to share their stories. The European Film Festival has long been a platform for cultural exchange, and the inclusion of Botswana’s short films will highlight the country’s growing creative sector.

This call for submissions represents more than just an opportunity to screen films—it is a chance for Botswana’s filmmakers to gain recognition, build networks, and contribute to the broader narrative of African cinema. With emphasis on originality and storytelling, the festival provides a stage where local perspectives can resonate globally.
