Assistant Minister Motsamai Tours Tsabong Abattoir to Assess Readiness. Assistant Minister of Lands and Agriculture, Mr Motsamai Motsamai, yesterday conducted an official tour of the Tsabong Multi-Species Abattoir to evaluate its readiness and infrastructure.
During the visit, Mr Motsamai commended the project management team for their efforts, stressing that the ministry’s top priority is to see the facility fully operational as soon as possible. He noted the abattoir’s strategic importance to Botswana’s agricultural sector and the broader national economy.
According to the Assistant Minister, the abattoir’s launch will provide a significant economic boost, creating much-needed employment opportunities for locals while offering farmers a structured and reliable market to sell their livestock profitably. This development is expected to strengthen Botswana’s livestock industry and enhance value chains across the agricultural sector.
The Tsabong Multi-Species Abattoir is regarded as a key infrastructural project aimed at commercialising livestock farming and empowering pastoral farmers. By providing modern facilities and market access, the abattoir is positioned to support sustainable growth, improve competitiveness, and contribute to food security.
Mr Motsamai emphasised that the abattoir represents more than just an agricultural facility—it is a driver of employment creation, rural development, and national economic diversification. He reiterated the ministry’s commitment to ensuring the project reaches completion and begins operations without delay.
The tour highlighted the government’s focus on strengthening agricultural infrastructure as part of its broader agenda to empower farmers and stimulate rural economies. Once operational, the Tsabong Abattoir is expected to serve as a model for future projects, demonstrating how strategic investments in agriculture can deliver long-term benefits for communities and the nation.
